Will I be getting the best available seats?
Yes. Tickets issued online will be selected from the best available seats at the time of booking or you are able to choose your own seats within the online booking system. Our online ticket office is connected real-time to our Box Office ticketing system. When booking in person or via the phone you will automatically be offered best available unless you have a specific seating request.
What venues/events are sold through this website?
Canberra Ticketing online booking service covers all events in The Playhouse, Canberra Theatre, The Courtyard Studio and Canberra Museum and Gallery. Canberra Ticketing can also book other venues in the ACT. Head to What’s On to see what’s available.
Where does the tiered seating start? Can you still see from the end of a row?
Tiered seating begins from row F in the Canberra Theatre and row C in The Playhouse. Sightlines are unrestricted in both these locations. You will be advised at time of booking where restricted seating is nominated.
Can I upgrade or exchange my ticket over the Internet?
Unfortunately you cannot exchange or upgrade your ticket over the internet. Exchange policies vary per performance and are at the discretion of the promoter. Please check the event information or contact the Box Office for details of individual performances. For productions which allow exchanges, we ask that all exchanges be made in person at Canberra Ticketing. All exchanges must be finalised at least 24 hours prior to the ticketed performance and will incur a $2.20 per ticket administrative fee and will only be authorised for seats of equal or higher value. You must return the original tickets to the Box Office before the exchange can take place.
What about wheelchair bookings?
To ensure wheelchair accessible seating allocation, please contact our Box Office to discuss your seating requirements in person. Alternatively, you may complete and forward our Accessible Seating Form and one of our staff will contact you as soon as possible.
Can I purchase a gift certificate online?
Yes, you certainly can! For whatever amount you would desire to spend. Gift vouchers are valid for a period of 3 years from the date of issue. Gift vouchers purchased prior to 22nd February 2018 are valid for 2 years. If purchasing multiple gift vouchers intended for different recipients it is advised that each voucher is processed individually.
Can I purchase ticket event insurance?
This service is no longer available.
What is the age range for Child ticket prices?
Unless otherwise stated a Child is aged one to 15 years. All children are required to have a valid ticket even on the lap of a parent or guardian. For details check event information or contact the Canberra Theatre Centre Box Office. Infants under 12 months of age are permitted provided that they do not occupy a seat, however they may be required to hold a ticket (even if that ticket is issued at no charge).
What does ‘Not recommended for Children’ mean?
The Canberra Theatre Centre puts age recommendations on its show pages where it has been noted by show promoters. This is done to ensure that the patron is aware that a show may not be suitable for children. Where a production has not specified an age recommendation, the Theatre’s recommended age range is 16 years and over. However, as live theatre is not regulated like cinema, we cannot prevent you from bringing your child or children if you have purchased valid tickets. As always, a guardian or parental discretion is advised where recommendations and strong warnings have been put in place.
Can I book a subscription over the Internet?
Yes, you can book a subscription online.
What does ‘General Admission’ mean?
General Admission means that seats are not allocated. We recommended that you arrive half an hour prior to the performance to select your seat.
I can no longer attend the performance I purchased tickets for, can I get a refund?
As per section 9 of our terms and conditions, once confirmed, your ticket and any transaction fee will not be refunded or exchanged, except as provided for in the LPA Code or as required by law (including the Australian Consumer Law). Some shows offer exchanges to other performances within the same show – please check the exchange section of this FAQ.
How secure are my credit card details?
Canberra Theatre Centre provides online ticket sales via the Payment Card Industry (PCI) approved ticketing software enta, secured using SSL certificates and digital encryption – an internet standard in securing online transactions. You can verify that you are using a secure connection; most browsers should display a secure lock symbol and allow you to view the certificate (ours has been issued by Geotrust – Equifax Secure Certificate Authority). All data passed during the secure connection is encrypted and transferred with no chance of it being intercepted and used for any purpose other than the transaction you intend. Your credit card details are never transferred or stored in a manner that is visible as ‘clear text’ – they are always encrypted and treated in a way that meets or exceeds the Payment Card Industry (PCI) security requirements. For the best security you should make sure your browser has been upgraded to the most current version and verify the certificate before submitting any sensitive information.
Can I buy Concession tickets on the web?
Yes. The Concessions applicable for individual performances vary – see the event information for available Concessions in the show you wish to see. Some Concession types will not be available online, such as groups and family tickets, however these may be booked over the phone or in person. When purchasing concession tickets, you may be required to present your Concession card when attending the theatre or collecting tickets from the Box Office.
Are Concessions available for all shows?
Concession prices are at the discretion of the promoter. Check the information on the show you wish to purchase to find out if they have differing ticket prices.
Can I reserve tickets without paying?
No, payment must be made in order to secure a ticket.
Do transaction fees apply to bookings?
A $5.95 transaction fees apply to all bookings made online, over the phone or in person at the Box Office. This is a per transaction fee, not a per ticket fee and will be applied at the end of your purchase.
Is there a difference in price between seats in the front and back of the theatre?
Generally all tickets are the same price throughout the venue, however this is at the discretion of the promoter. Check the information on the show you wish to purchase for to find out if they have differing ticket prices.
Where is the Box Office located?
Canberra Ticketing is located in Canberra Theatre Centre, Civic Square on London Circuit. Standard hours are 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday and 10am to 2pm on Saturdays. Outside of business hours, Canberra Ticketing will be open two hours prior to performance start times at the Canberra Theatre Centre and a minimum of 30 minutes for all external venues. What if my tickets are lost?
If you have misplaced your tickets, or they have been stolen, please contact Canberra Ticketing. Duplicate tickets will be issued, but only 30 minutes before performance commencement, and upon presentation of identification. For performances not taking place at the Canberra Theatre or The Playhouse duplicate tickets will be provided at the door of the respective theatre on the night.
How long before the show should I pick up my tickets?
It is recommended that you pick up your ticket at least half an hour before the show is due to start. Please be advised that during this period Box Office staff will only be able to manage enquiries pertaining to the immediate performance. No other tickets sales will be facilitated during this period.
What if I’m running late?
At the Canberra Theatre Centre, the Box Office is open up until half an hour after performance commencement. If you are later than this the Front of House Concierge will have your tickets. Other venues will have similar arrangements. Be aware that many shows observe a lockout on latecomers and you may not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance, or even the second act.
What forms of I.D. do I need to pick up my tickets?
Standard identification may be required to collect your tickets (i.e. driver’s license, credit card) as well as proof of any Concessions you have claimed.
