14–16 December 2023

Lucid Theatre Co’s debut production, People You May Know, is a passion-project from some of Canberra’s most promising young minds in theatre (if we do say so ourselves). The play interweaves multiple story lines, each employing a unique dramatic style to provide a new take on a tale as old as… long as university-age students have been around. Exploring the very best and most crucial topics discussed amongst young people to this day – namely: gossip, toxic friendships, the internet and, most importantly, a sex scandal. As most stories do at university, our story begins with a party. Throughout the night mediocre attempts are made to rekindle old friendships, seek out important gossip, find a worthy hook-up, and most importantly: have a drink. Influencer Isla Gen delivers some exciting news to her closest circle: she has just been nominated for the Chancellor’s medal. This sparks celebration and jealousy (shhh) for the cast of young characters whose differences create beautiful disharmony when they are faced with a life-altering event the morning after: the internet has stopped. Like, for good. Without the crutch of the internet, the shocking truth is revealed in all aspects in a way these people (or us, tbh) have never experienced before. Follow along as sh*t well and truly hits the fan (these kids have no idea what they’re doing!!!!). This play is at the most, the most life changing theatre experience you will ever experience, combining sharp wit with surprisingly heartfelt sincerity to generate a revolutionary youth theatre production. At the very least, though, it is a perfect night out at the theatre as we enter the Christmas season. Don’t miss People You May Know! This work is supported by Canberra Theatre Centre's Sector Development Program.

Without the crutch of the internet, the shocking truth is revealed in all aspects in a way these people (or us, tbh) have never experienced before. Follow along as sh*t well and truly hits the fan (these kids have no idea what they’re doing!!!!).
