Subject to Change is the major production for QL2 Dance in 2024. Three dynamic new dance works explore our relationship to change. Subject to Change considers our adaptability and awareness in a rapidly changing world. Is it possible to maintain a sense of agency and accountability as other forces impact our experience? Can we remain open-minded and responsive to the ever-shifting landscapes of life? With 26 young Canberran dance artists at the forefront, Subject to Change is a triple bill of new dance works created by renowned Australian choreographers Alisdair Macindoe (Naarm/Melbourne), Gabrielle Nankivell (Meanjin/Brisbane) and Artistic Director of QL2 Dance, Ruth Osborne OAM (Kamberri/Canberra). Subject to Change represents Australian youth dance at its best; innovative choreography, sound and production design combined with powerful performances by the next generation of young Canberra region dancers. “From the beginning of QL2’s “Communicate” [QL2 Dance’s major project of 2023], the quality of dance was striking. It was not a stretch to think of the choreographic style or the quality of Australia’s top contemporary dance companies. Should some of these dancers end up with them, it would seem fitting.” – Samara Purnell, City News “Quantum Leap is a significant addition to the dance scene in Canberra and a list of ‘some alumni’ who have begun their careers as Quantum Leapers is quite astonishing. They include (if I have to limit myself to just two) Daniel Riley now directing Australian Dance Theare, and James Batchelor with a major international career as a choreographer.” – Michelle Potter, dance critic and historian QL2 Dance is a contemporary dance organisation based in Kamberri/Canberra. Celebrating 25 years in 2023, we are the national centre for youth dance and a contemporary dance hub for the ACT. Our comprehensive program of productions, projects and residencies is designed to nurture and support young, emerging and professional artists to create and develop, to connect and share.
